The Woman’s Club of Greenwich brings women together to promote civic, philanthropic, and educational activities to create a helpful influence in the community. With its unique blend of activities for women and philanthropy for the community, it is a little treasure right here in town.
You Are Invited to Join
The Woman’s Club of Greenwich is open to women of all ages who are interested in both social engagement and giving back to the community through fun and interesting fund-raising events. Most of our events are held at the Clubhouse, which is located in a lovely Victorian dwelling in central Greenwich.

Over the years, The Woman’s Club has contributed to services provided to the community by the Town of Greenwich. Specifically, the Club founded the Community Chest, the Visiting Nurse Service, the Free Lunch Program, Meals on Wheels and Utilized Senior Energy. Today the Club continues to serve the town through its philanthropies and scholarships and its members’ support of Neighbor to Neighbor.
Meetings
General membership meetings are held monthly from September to June, on the third Thursday of each month. A wide variety of interesting and educational programs are presented at these meetings and members are welcome to invite friends to participate.
Publications
A monthly newsletter is published throughout the year featuring current and upcoming activities, Club news and the Club calendar. The annual yearbook is published in September and contains the Membership Directory and important information for the coming year.

The annual Philanthropy awards are made possible primarily through fund-raising efforts throughout the year. Any income from tax deductible donations, memorial contributions and bequests are used to enhance the philanthropies and scholarships awarded by WGOC, unless specifically allocated by the donor.
History
Originally founded in 1910 as The Mothers Club, a group of mothers interested in children’s education and supporting the Greenwich community, renamed The Woman’s Club of Greenwich in 1917. These women dedicated their time and efforts to serve every phase of Greenwich living including civic affairs, welfare, arts, education and conservation. They conducted studies and offered proposals to benefit the town and enhance the quality of life in the community. Some of the major contributions include:
Established the drinking foundation at the Main Post Office.
Started a day nursery in Byram and supported it for over 10 years.
Founded the Community Chest of Greenwich, the Visiting Nurse Service, and the Free Milk Program for undernourished school children.
Project on War and Post-War Services.
Began to prioritize conservation and were instrumental in the purchase of Great Captain Island for the Town of Greenwich.
Meals on Wheels founded by a WCOG member. This critical organization continues to be housed in the cottage on our property.
Utilized Senior Energy (U.S.E.) organized and opened at the Woman’s Club.
Organized the third graders historic bus tour of Greenwich as a bicentennial gift to the Town from the Woman’s Club and the Junior Woman’s Club.
Began sponsorship of the Greenwich Spring Antiques Show.
Officially established The Woman’s Club’s scholarship fund benefitting local college bound students.
Community Centers Inc. (CCI) became the Club’s major volunteer focus.
Our members (working with CCI) donated many hours to Parsonage Cottage and its residents. Expanded our philanthropic contributions to a diverse set of non-profit organizations supporting the community.
